What is mental preparation?
Beyond the sometimes-complicated explanations, here is how we define Mental Preparation at Hypno-Confiance:

Mental preparation is “training that consists of developing mental and cognitive skills with the objective of optimizing the personal (or collective) performance of athletes, while promoting autonomy and the pleasure in practice” (Ref from Jean Fournier, lequipe.fr)
It is the psychological (versus psycho-affective) part of training an athletic competitor. It falls into the same area as the development of physical, technical and tactical qualities and skills.
Among the activities and tools available to the mental trainer are: hypnosis, auto suggestion, mental imagery, relaxation, NLP, emotional intelligence, martial arts, sophrology, cognitive and behavioural methods, etc.
Within the framework of these techniques, we identify notably, the use of performance routines that promote concentration, relaxation, or combativeness as well as the use of internal dialogue. It’s important to note that high-level athletes often use mental preparation techniques without being aware of it – and without the aid of a mental trainer – but some do it more frequently and more effectively than others.
